9 Reasons to Have Date Night in Seaport Village

San Diego is known for its perfect weather, beautiful beaches and hip craft beer scene.  And there’s more. Just a few miles from the airport sits Seaport Village offering a variety of restaurants, museums, shops, entertainment, gorgeous views of the waterfront and even wine tasting.

This weekend Alfonso and I, had a date night in the village. Sometimes it’s nice to play tourist in your own city.  There are more than a few reasons to head into Seaport Village for the weekend.  We came up with a list of 9.  I can assure you that there are more than nine reasons to enjoy Seaport Village, but I like the number 9.

1. Waterfront wine-tasting at San Pasqual’s tasting room was a great way to start. I should say that I’m not much of a Chardonnay fan, but was super impressed with their Chardonnay. We were also surprised with the Summer Vine “Habanero” Passion Fruit Wine. These two definitely stood out.

2. Right next door to the tasting room is a surf themed restaurant, Buster’s Beach House. We enjoyed The Green Flash (tempura avocado stuffed with spicy ahi, crab cake, drizzled with chipotle aioli and ponzu dipping sauce). I would go back just for that! The Pork Luau was no joke either. The pork  is slow cooked in banana leaves for over twelve hours and melts in your mouth.

3. There is really nothing more beautiful than taking a stroll along the boardwalk, admiring the moonlight glistening in the water and watching the boats rock back and forth.  It is very easy to get mesmerized while admiring this majestic sight,  so go ahead and take a seat on one of the many benches that line the boardwalk.  There you can admire the lights bouncing off the water, listen to the gentle crashing of the waves against rocks, or hear the wind gently blowing between the sea wall and store fronts.

4.  Get a bird’s eye view of Seaport Village and then some at the Top of the Hyatt. This wonderful bar that sits 30 floors above Seaport Village offers not only drinks and appetizers, but an incredible view at no extra charge.  There is no cover charge to enter and the views are simply spectacular.  From here you can see views like the Coronado Bay Bridge, the historic Hotel Del, as well as the North Island Naval base in Coronado.

The evening was so beautiful that we decided to head back out in the morning. This was not a bad call at all. We discovered the old police station.

5. The Headquarters – Built in 1939, the building was designated as San Diego’s Police headquarter and has been transformed into a very hip retail and eatery area.  While there, don’t forget to check out the interactive mural and refurbished jail cells!

6. The Waterfront walk once more… face painting, palm readers and rock builders.  So much to see!

7. The Historic Carousel – Fun for adults and kids!  Build in 1895.

8. Coffee, books and a view at Upstart Crow

Coffee House and Bookstore.  One of my favorite morning spots. Come for a cup of coffee and a read or maybe even live music on a weekend evening.

9. Music near the carousel.  There’s an Inca band that plays in the middle of the center.  Wind, percussion and rhythm instruments fill the air.  It’s happy music and you will surely leave happy.
