11. Duck for President by Doreen Cronin
This is a kid favorite that chronicles Duck’s political career from Mayor to President. Although it doesn’t explain much about a politician’s job, it does express that the jobs are full of responsibility, the kind Duck doesn’t want.
12. If I Were President by Catherine Stier
This book provides an look at being president from campaigning through serving. Like some of the other books presented here, it details many of the responsibilities of any president, but it’s approach is different. In this book, various children imagine what it would be like if they were president. It’s a great discussion starter for your younger elementary children.
13. A Kid’s Guide to America’s First Ladies by Kathleen Krull
It wouldn’t be a complete list of the lives of our presidents without including their wives! Being a First Lady comes with its own responsibilities, and this book explains their role as leaders and advocates. It also includes a timeline of women’s rights, and is updated through Melania Trump.
14. President Adams’ Alligator, And Other White House Pets by Peter W. Barnes
This is one of many texts that have been published about the pets that have lived at the White House. Some of them are what you would expect, such as a dog. However, there are many that may come as a surprise, including the alligator for which the book is titled.
15. Kid Presidents: True Tales of Childhood from America’s Presidents by David Stabler
What kid wouldn’t want to know what our presidents were like when they were children themselves? Similar to the presidential trivia books, this book shares some of the interesting facts about our presidents’ lives. The difference lies in its inclusion of everyday issues, such as getting along with siblings and having difficulties with academic and athletic challenges. It’s inspiring to say the least.
