Reactions to Paris Hilton’s Baby Announcement

Paris Hilton and her husband Carter Reum have welcomed their first child together, a baby boy, via surrogate. The couple, who wed in November 2021, announced the news on Instagram with a close-up of the baby holding Hilton’s thumb and captioned it “You are already loved beyond words” and added a blue heart emoji.

Hilton also spoke to People magazine about the exciting news, saying, “It’s always been my dream to be a mother and I’m so happy that Carter and I found each other. We are so excited to start our family together and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy.”

The news of Hilton’s baby was met with mixed reactions on social media. Some offered their congratulations and well-wishes to the couple, while others questioned the circumstances of the surrogacy and commented on societal constructions of gender.

Twitter Reactions

Twitter user @jossytweets pointed out that “Paris Hilton ‘welcomes a baby’ isn’t the same as Paris Hilton ‘gives birth to a baby,'” while @MommyRou commented, “Why does it matter how Paris Hilton had her baby? It鈥檚 still her baby.”

@CF_Farrow wrote, “So Paris Hilton paid another woman to carry and birth her baby for her. Which is nice,” and added that while everyone was focusing on Paris’ fabulous life, the thoughts of the surrogate mother, who carried and gave birth to the baby, and how she may be feeling, were not being considered.

Others like @nybarbiedoll defended Hilton’s decision to use a surrogate, stating, “There is nothing wrong with being honest about using a surrogate.”

@elee_bella commented on the gender binary associated with color, asking why the gender binary has to be associated with a color. And @RealBlackIrish wrote about the societal double standard in regard to animal cruelty and newborn babies.

@imsiieennaa concluded that the fact that Paris Hilton is married and has a baby and no one knew is how private she’s going to be with her life.

Regardless of the mixed reactions, Paris Hilton and Carter Reum are thrilled to welcome their new bundle of joy and start their family together.
