I ‘ll be honest—I didn’t wake up one day thinking, “What I really need in life is David Dobrik’s interpretation of pizza in the form of a cracker.” And yet, here we are. Doughbrik’s Wavers have arrived, marching into my pantry like they’re auditioning to be the next Doritos, except with a moral superiority complex.
Yes, they’re non-GMO, clean-label, preservative-free, and only 140 calories per serving. Translation: they want me to believe I can eat the whole bag without guilt. I can’t. Mostly because the crunch is so loud it makes me question whether I’m chewing food or drywall. On the plus side, I guess that means I’ll never be able to sneak a handful in the middle of a Zoom call.
The flavors are straight out of Dobrik’s West Hollywood pizza shop fever dream: Late Night Pizza, Extra Cheesy, Spicy Pickle, and Hot Honey. Now, I’ve tasted all four, and while they definitely deliver on boldness, sometimes bold isn’t what I need. For example, Spicy Pickle. I wanted “zingy snack with character.” What I got was “my tastebuds are filing a harassment claim.”
Extra Cheesy, however, deserves a gold star for honesty. It’s exactly what it says—cheese. Lots of it. Enough that I had to check the bag to confirm it wasn’t smuggled out of a movie theater nacho station. Hot Honey walks the fine line between genius and punishment, and Late Night Pizza… well, it did taste like pizza, but the kind of pizza you eat at 2 a.m. and regret at 8 a.m.
Still, I have to give credit where it’s due. They’re convenient. I can toss a pack in a backpack, a lunchbox, or my car’s glove compartment, and they’ll survive the apocalypse. And, despite the dramatic flavors, I like the concept of a crunchy snack that doesn’t make me feel like I’ve committed nutritional treason.
The variety works for different moods too. When I want something predictable, Extra Cheesy hits the spot. If I’m in the mood for questionable life choices, Spicy Pickle is ready and waiting. Hot Honey keeps things unpredictable—sweet, spicy, and slightly confusing—while Late Night Pizza leans all the way into nostalgia, right down to tasting like that questionable slice you swore you’d never eat again.
At the end of the day, Doughbrik’s Wavers are a snack with personality. Loud, slightly chaotic personality—kind of like their co-founder. And while I might not be clearing shelf space for them just yet, I’ll admit this: they’ve at least made snack time more interesting than another bag of plain old pretzels.
