Effie’s Homemade Biscuits Review From Someone Who Ate Way Too Many

There’s a fine line between a cookie and a cracker. Effie’s Homemade has not only found that line — they’ve set up a hammock on it, moved in, and offered me a plate. Their biscuits are marketed as crisp, buttery, and lightly sweet. Translation: they’re the kind of snack you eat “just one” of… until you suddenly need to explain to your family why the box is mysteriously empty.

Effie’s now offers these biscuits in single-serve packs — two biscuits per pack. This is either portion control or a challenge, depending on your level of self-discipline. I tested all three flavors and, in the interest of journalistic integrity, did so in one sitting.

Ginger Biscuits – Imagine gingerbread, but grown up, got a job, and decided to dress better. Bold ginger flavor with a spicy kick, but smoothed over by a buttery sweetness. Excellent with tea, though mine was gone before the tea steeped. If you like pairing your snacks with citrus curd or mascarpone, congratulations, you’re fancier than I am.

Oatcakes – Crisp, subtly sweet, and allegedly based on a Cape Breton family recipe. These are dangerously versatile — equally good with jam, cheese, or straight from the pack while you’re hiding from your kids. They’re the most “innocent” flavor, which means you can tell yourself they’re practically health food.

Cocoa Biscuits – Malted cocoa, oats, toasted coconut… This one is the dessert that pretends it’s not dessert. It’s perfect crumbled on ice cream, but also completely fine inhaled on its own when you “accidentally” skip dinner.

If you’re the type who debates whether you’re in the mood for sweet or savory, these are your middle ground. They’re refined enough to serve to guests but simple enough to eat standing over the sink in your pajamas. Effie’s has nailed the snack that doesn’t need an excuse.
