I never thought I’d utter the phrase “Gabby’s Dollhouse for dinner,” yet here we are because apparently, the world has decided that kids’ streaming shows and my weeknight meals now share a kitchen. Home Chef, in its ongoing quest to make us feel like capable adults while also appeasing the tiny dictators we call our children, has partnered with Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie for a limited-time, four-week menu. It’s part meal kit, part fever dream, and- dare I say- actually kind of fun.
The idea is simple: family-friendly recipes that even the pickiest eaters might not reject outright. You can browse the full lineup of Gabby ’s-inspired recipes over at Home Chef, which sounds innocent enough until you realize you might soon be serving something called Gabby’s One-Pot Turkey Lasagna Noodle Slide. (Yes, that’s a real thing. No, I don’t know what a “noodle slide” is either.)
Since curiosity usually wins out over common sense, I tried a couple of the recipes- because who doesn’t want to eat something inspired by animated cats in a dollhouse?
First up was CatRat’s Crispy Chicken Sandwich- a brioche-bunned beauty loaded with crispy chicken, dill pickles, sweet potatoes, and russet oven fries. The tempura coating on the chicken was so crunchy it practically echoed across the kitchen, and I’ll admit, the brioche bun felt almost too fancy for a meal associated with a talking cartoon rat. My only complaint? The portion of pickles. If CatRat’s as clever as he looks, he’d know that you can never have too many.
Next came MerCat’s One-Sheet Sweet Teriyaki Salmon, which sounded suspiciously like something that would end in tears (mine). But against all odds, it turned out great—perfectly glazed salmon with fresh carrots and broccoli that actually looked like real vegetables, not the sad, frozen kind you find hiding in the back of your freezer. The teriyaki sauce was just sweet enough, and the sesame seeds made me feel like I’d put in effort, even though the oven did all the work.
Each Gabby’s Dollhouse meal box comes with ingredients for four servings at $7.99 a pop, which is a bargain when you consider it also buys you thirty minutes of peace and the illusion that your family enjoys eating together. Plus, everything arrives prepped and portioned so that you can skip the guilt trip at the grocery store.
In the end, Home Chef’s Gabby’s Dollhouse collection isn’t just about feeding your family- it’s about surviving dinner with your sanity intact. The meals are simple, surprisingly tasty, and whimsical enough to make your kids excited to eat something that isn’t shaped like a nugget. And really, if you can get through the week without a meltdown (yours or theirs), that’s a victory worth celebrating- with extra teriyaki glaze.
