Nestled inside the Loews New Orleans, Poydras & Peters is like that one polished friend who somehow never spills red wine on their white shirt. It’s an oasis of refinement in the middle of downtown’s delightful chaos, which, let’s be honest, usually smells like beer and regret. Walking in, I half expected to be handed a velvet smoking jacket and a monocle.
First, let’s talk about the drinks. The margarita—crafted with blue curaçao—was nothing short of spectacular. I took a sip, and for a brief moment, I forgot the humid embrace of the New Orleans streets. It was a perfect mix of citrusy refreshment and enough booze to make me consider texting my ex. The bar itself oozes elegance, and you feel sophisticated just by sitting there, even if you’re wearing sneakers that have seen better days.
Now, onto the food. Let’s start with the praline-covered bacon. Yes, you read that correctly. It was a revelation—a sweet and salty masterpiece that made me question everything I thought I knew about bacon. If I could legally marry it, I would.
The chicken? Tender. Like, “fall apart at the mere suggestion of a fork” tender. If this chicken were a person, it would be the one who remembers your birthday and texts you to check in. And the chicken wings? A divine balance of spicy and sweet, proving that yes, you really can have it all.
The crab cake was another highlight, primarily because of the good sauce. I briefly considered drinking it through a straw. (I decided against it, but it was close.) As for the side dish, the potatoes were cheesy with a perfectly firm top—basically the culinary equivalent of a well-tailored suit.
And let’s not forget our lovely waitress. Sweet, attentive, and patient, she didn’t even bat an eye when I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to photograph my food like a deranged influencer. Service like that deserves a round of applause or a very generous tip.
In short, Poydras & Peters is the kind of place you take your friends when you want to pretend you have your life together. It’s an elegant escape from the madness, with food and drinks so good they’ll make you momentarily forget you ever had to Google “how to fold a fitted sheet.” Highly recommend.
