They Made an Eight-Pound Chocottone®. Yes, Really.
In December 2025, Bauducco stepped forward and effectively said, “What if we made a Chocottone so large it could double as a small ottoman?” The result was a promotional eight-pound Chocottone —a chocolate-chip-packed, fudge-coated carbohydrate monument to holiday excess. Not a panettone, mind you. A Chocottone®. Because apparently the world needed a dessert with both a registered trademark and the mass of a newborn.
The Scale of Culinary Madness
For perspective, Bauducco described the promotional version we received in 2025 as roughly eight pounds, far larger than its regular retail Chocottone. The packaging also listed serving and nutrition information for that oversized item. Because this was a special promotional product rather than a standard retail size, use the current package for nutrition details on any version you can actually buy. That’s less dramatic than doing calorie math on an eight-pound dessert, but considerably more useful.
Serving an Eight-Pound Chocottone®
You don’t slice this thing—you approach it with a plan. A sharp knife, a steady grip, maybe even a support team. Chocolate chips spill out like festive debris, fudge adheres to surfaces with suspicious enthusiasm, and suddenly your kitchen looks like a dessert-themed escape room. Technically it’s 50 servings, but realistically it’s however many people you can convince to help you reduce the gravitational pull it creates on your countertop.
International Chocottone Day
Bauducco even gave this confection its own calendar moment: December 15th, International Chocottone Day. Because if you create a dessert with the mass of an apartment-sized houseplant, you’re entitled to declare an international celebration. In our 2025 coverage, the giant eight-pound version was a promotional item rather than a retail product. It existed. It had been created. It loomed large in the collective imagination. Current availability can change, so check Bauducco’s current lineup rather than assuming the 2025 promotion is still the same. Which somehow makes it feel even more mythological.
Family-Friendly (Technically), Logistically Difficult (Absolutely)
Could a family enjoy this? Yes. Should they? That depends on how you feel about sugar highs, fudge smudges, and the philosophical weight of eating something heavier than a bowling ball. It’s less a dessert and more a scenic overlook on the landscape of indulgence.
A Fudge-Coated Enigma
The thick fudge coating works like edible armor, holding the structure together with the confidence of a dessert that knows it’s the main character. Handling it is an activity. Storing it is a negotiation. Finishing it is pure ambition.
Why Eight Pounds?
The obvious question persists: why? Why make an eight-pound Chocottone®? Was “normal-sized” too timid? Did someone at Bauducco look at a perfectly reasonable loaf and say, “Double it. No, triple it. No, go until the packaging requires reinforced handles.” Whatever happened in that meeting, it gifted the world a dessert that challenges both physics and moderation.
A Mythical, Non-Purchasable Holiday Marvel
The oversized version we covered in 2025 was not a regular retail item, so the experience was mostly about marveling at it—the Chocottone® equivalent of spotting a rare creature in the wild. It exists to inspire awe, ignite holiday discourse, and remind us all that somewhere, somehow, a bakery looked at the concept of “too big” and politely declined.
