Cleanbar Soaps: Suds with Sass and a Dash of Elegance

Cleanbar Soap Company caught my attention with handcrafted bars that put fragrance and personality ahead of the generic-soap experience. The two bars I tried—Livin’ La Vida Mocha and You Clean Up Good—went in very different scent directions, which made them a useful introduction to the brand.

Cleanbar Soap Company First Impressions

The appeal is presentation as much as function. These are the sort of bars that feel giftable rather than purely utilitarian, with bold names and scent combinations designed to make an everyday shower a little more interesting.

In 2024, the lineup included specific claims about the number of available scents, curing time and ingredients. Because small-batch formulas and assortments can change, those details are best treated as a snapshot of that year’s lineup rather than permanent specifications.

Livin’ La Vida Mocha Soap

Livin’ La Vida Mocha was the more playful of the two bars. Coffee-inspired warmth was balanced by a cooler mint note, while coffee grounds gave the bar noticeable texture.

I liked it most as a morning shower soap because the scent felt energetic without needing the exaggerated promise that it would somehow transform the rest of the day. The textured bar also feels different from a conventional smooth soap, which may be a plus or minus depending on personal preference.

You Clean Up Good Soap

You Clean Up Good moved in a woodier direction, with cedarwood-style warmth, lemongrass brightness and herbal notes reminiscent of eucalyptus and rosemary.

Of the two, this was the more outdoorsy scent. It had a “cabin retreat” personality, with an outdoorsy scent profile, without requiring skincare claims beyond what we actually observed.

Cleanbar Soap Review Verdict

Cleanbar’s strength is making an ordinary product feel more personal. The distinctive names, fragrances and handcrafted presentation make the bars especially easy to imagine as small gifts or stocking stuffers.
