The Dagne Dover Bennie Day Sling, now listed by Dagne Dover simply as the Bennie Sling, is the kind of bag that makes sense when you want to carry the essentials without accidentally packing for a long weekend. We tried it for everyday errands, dog walks and the usual phone-keys-wallet routine, and its strongest feature was how little it weighed.

How the Bennie Day Sling feels

The neoprene construction keeps the bag soft and lightweight. It never felt bulky across the chest, even when loaded with the basics, and the material gives the bag enough structure to avoid collapsing into a fabric puddle.

The strap can be worn crossbody or around the waist, and elastic loops help control the extra strap length. That sounds like a tiny detail until you have owned a bag with a loose strap tail slapping against your side for an entire afternoon.

Storage and organization

The Bennie uses a dual-pocket layout. The front compartment works well for a phone, cash or lip balm, while the back compartment has a wipeable interior that is handy for messier items such as dog treats or gum wrappers.

Inside are three card slots, which can eliminate the need for a separate wallet if you are traveling light. The tradeoff is capacity: this is a small sling, and anyone who carries a water bottle, large cosmetic pouch or emergency sweater will run out of room quickly.

What fits in the Bennie Day Sling?

For us, it worked best with a phone, keys, cards, a few small personal items and dog-walk essentials. That makes it useful for quick errands or days when carrying a larger tote feels unnecessary.

The bag is less convincing if you routinely carry half the contents of your kitchen junk drawer. It rewards restraint, which is rude but occasionally useful.

Colors and everyday style

The version available during our 2025 test came in several colors, including Onyx, Dark Moss, Dune, Daylight and Washed Lilac. Colors and availability can change, so current options are worth checking before buying.

We chose a neutral shade because it was easy to wear repeatedly without thinking much about it. The simple shape also works with casual clothes without looking overly sporty.

The Bennie Day Sling makes the most sense for someone who wants a very lightweight bag for true essentials. Its dual-pocket design, flexible strap and built-in card slots make it easy to use, while the small capacity is the obvious limitation.
