Diva Disc Review: Features, Use and Care

Diva Disc reusable menstrual disc resting on its storage pouch

Diva was already well known for the DivaCup when it introduced the reusable Diva Disc. When we covered the product in 2023, the design stood out for its oval shape, pull tab and a feature the brand called its Leakproof Shield.

Editor’s note: This review reflects the Diva Disc and manufacturer guidance available in 2023. Menstrual-product instructions, materials, pricing and safety guidance can change. Follow the current instructions supplied by the manufacturer and consult a healthcare professional if you have questions about whether a menstrual disc is appropriate for you.

What Is the Diva Disc?

The Diva Disc is a reusable menstrual disc designed to sit internally during a period. Unlike a menstrual cup, a disc uses a different shape and placement. In 2023, Diva described its version as made with medical-grade silicone and pigments.

At the time, the brand promoted the disc as reusable and designed for wear for up to 12 hours depending on menstrual flow. That wear-time language should be checked against Diva’s current instructions rather than treated as permanent guidance.

Leakproof Shield and Pull Tab

The most distinctive feature in the original launch was what Diva called the Leakproof Shield. The company said the design was intended to help reduce unwanted emptying while the disc was being worn.

The disc also included an anti-slip pull tab intended to make removal easier. Those were the two features that most clearly differentiated the product from the basic menstrual-disc format when we first covered it.

Capacity, Fit and Comfort Claims

In its 2023 launch materials, Diva said the disc could hold the equivalent of up to seven tampons and described its oval shape as designed to resist rotation. The company also promoted the shape for people with a lower cervix height.

Fit and comfort are highly individual, so those manufacturer claims should not be read as a guarantee that the product will work the same way for every person.

Can the Diva Disc Be Worn During Sex?

Diva’s launch information said the disc could be worn during penetrative vaginal sex while menstruating. Anyone using it that way should follow the current manufacturer instructions and remember that a menstrual disc is not a contraceptive and does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

How We Were Told to Clean the Diva Disc

In 2023, the instructions we reviewed called for sanitizing the disc before first use and washing it before reinsertion and after removal. Because cleaning and sanitizing directions are health-related product instructions, use the current instructions that come with the product rather than relying on this older review for exact timing or method.

Reusable Period Products and Waste

One practical attraction of a reusable disc is that it can reduce reliance on single-use period products. How long a reusable disc lasts depends on care, condition and current manufacturer guidance.

Diva Disc Review: The Bottom Line

The Diva Disc caught our attention in 2023 because it combined a reusable menstrual-disc format with a pull tab and the brand’s Leakproof Shield design. The basic concept remains straightforward, but current users should rely on the latest Diva instructions for wear time, cleaning, replacement and other health-related guidance.
