Two new hardcover additions to the Dungeons & Dragons library put magic at the center of character creation and high-level adventure. Arcana Unleashed expands the options available to players and Dungeon Masters, while Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall takes experienced characters into a high-stakes conflict in the Forgotten Realms.

Both books were released on September 15, 2026. The two-cover photo shows the gameplay expansion alongside its companion adventure, making clear that they serve different roles at the table.
More ways to build a magic-focused character
Arcana Unleashed adds eight subclasses, 33 new or revised spells, 10 backgrounds, more than 20 feats and 19 magical creatures, according to Dungeons & Dragons. Its options include an Arcane Archer for fighters, a Vestige Patron for warlocks, a Warrior of the Mystic Arts for monks and four wizard subclasses tied to specific schools of magic.
The book also develops the political and social side of magic through nine arcane factions, giving Dungeon Masters material for campaigns built around rivalries, alliances and societies shaped by spellcasters. A level-one introductory adventure, Tomb of the Shadow Serpents, gives groups a way to begin using the new material without starting at high level.
Deadfall moves the story to Thay
Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall is a separate adventure for characters at levels 11 through 20. The story centers on Thay, a realm associated with the Red Wizards, and the lich Szass Tam. Players undertake covert missions amid magical espionage and political intrigue as they try to stop a threat involving a demonic undead horde.
The adventure includes more than 20 maps, a Thay gazetteer, 14 magic items and six high-challenge creatures, including a stat block for Szass Tam. That makes Deadfall aimed at groups ready for a longer, higher-level campaign rather than beginners looking for their first adventure.
