Famadillo was hosted for this September 2026 resort stay.
Lake Tahoe offers outdoor recreation year-round, from hiking and water sports to skiing in the Sierra Nevada. During my September 2026 South Lake Tahoe stay, Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe brought a laid-back, island-inspired atmosphere to this mountain destination. I found plenty to enjoy at the resort itself, as well as an excellent location for exploring the area.
Spacious suites with an island feel
The 399-suite property opened under the Margaritaville name in December 2023. Suite layouts include separate living and sleeping areas, with several bed configurations and larger options for groups or families. Some rooms have mountain views, fireplaces or terraces.
Walking into the suite was a welcome change of pace after a day out. The soft furniture, colorful décor and fluffy pillows made the room comfortable and inviting. I liked the little parrots on the bedding—a playful Margaritaville touch. There was a wet bar, mini-fridge, coffee machine, dining area, safe, robes and a bathroom stocked with toiletries. A terrace with a view would be a particularly nice way to begin or end a Lake Tahoe day.

Pool, yoga and activities around the resort
One of my favorite experiences was the weekend yoga session by the pool. Our instructor was knowledgeable and made accommodations for injuries and physical limitations. It was a relaxing way to start the morning, with participants of different ages stretching together before heading out for the day.
The year-round indoor heated pool and hot tub offer another place to slow down. The resort also has a fitness center and outdoor space for warmer weather. During my visit, the valet team was efficient and thoughtful, and I appreciated the convenience of the resort’s shuttle and ski-storage services.

There are activities for families as well as adults. The resort offered activities including movie nights, live music, firepits and a scavenger hunt that encourages guests to explore and take photos. I enjoyed looking for references to popular songs in the décor. Picking up a s’mores kit at Joe Merchant’s and settling into an Adirondack chair by the firepit made for a pleasant evening.
Throughout my stay, the staff helped establish the relaxed atmosphere. Their friendly service stood out alongside the resort’s design and amenities.

Dining at Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe
The resort lists five dining and drinking spots on the property, so guests have options without leaving the resort. I especially enjoyed exploring the different menus and atmospheres.
JWB Prime Steak & Seafood
JWB is the resort’s steakhouse, with USDA Prime steaks, seafood and a raw bar on its menu. During my visit, dishes such as seafood stew and duck magret were among the more distinctive options. The wine list and cocktails give guests plenty of pairing choices for a more leisurely dinner.

LandShark Bar & Grill
LandShark is a more casual stop with indoor and outdoor seating, TVs and live music. The blackened mahi-mahi and shrimp tacos were standouts for me, with generous portions and a combination of sriracha mayo, pico de gallo and cilantro-lime cabbage. I also enjoyed the tuna tartare with avocado, cucumber, tomato and wonton chips.
There was a hot-honey chicken sandwich on the menu, and the key lime pie made a good finish to the meal. For drinks, two of my favorites were the Cosmo Getaway and Pink Cadillac. The margaritas had refreshing fruit flavors without tasting overly strong, and the attentive servers made the experience even better.

Joe Merchant’s Coffee & Provisions
Joe Merchant’s is a convenient stop for coffee, quick bites, snacks and resort souvenirs. The walk-up window is handy when you’re sitting outside. I also noticed Dole soft serve and s’mores kits—small treats that fit the relaxed vacation setting.

Come Monday Café
For breakfast, Come Monday Café offered both a buffet and à la carte choices during my visit. The made-to-order omelet station was a highlight, with fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt and other familiar breakfast options rounding out the selection. The cheerful servers brought freshly prepared food to the table, and mimosas were an option for those who wanted them.

License to Chill Bar
The lobby’s License to Chill Bar is an easy gathering place after a day outside. Guests can sit by the fireplace, listen to music and order a drink or a light appetizer. The playful “blown out flip-flop” decoration makes the bar easy to spot.

Practical considerations for a stay
Dog-friendly accommodations are available, though pet fees and restrictions apply. The resort also advertises accessibility options and staff training associated with its Autism Double-Checked program; guests with specific access or sensory needs should contact the property to confirm that it can meet their requirements. The property also hosts meetings, celebrations and other events.

A convenient South Lake Tahoe location
The resort sits on the California side of the Nevada state line. Casinos, shops, restaurants, the Heavenly Gondola and the lakefront are within walking distance. I liked being able to switch between the bustle of the surrounding neighborhood and a quieter break back in my suite.
For travelers who want a mountain vacation with a playful tropical feel, Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe offers a comfortable base, several dining options and easy access to South Lake Tahoe. My favorite parts were the roomy accommodations, the welcoming staff, morning yoga and the meals at LandShark.
