Who knew they made spicy peanut butter? Not peanut butter with a little attitude. Actual, genuinely spicy peanut butter. NouBon sent us an assortment of Caribbean-inspired spreads and snacks, and now I have a new problem: I cannot stop thinking about the peanut butter.
The company makes sweet snacks too, and they’re good. But the jars of Spicy Peanut Butter and Ghost Pepper Peanut Butter are what made me stop, take another taste and wonder how something as ordinary as peanut butter got this interesting. One is extremely spicy. The other feels like a personal challenge issued by a pepper.
Spicy Peanut Butter Changes the PB&J Equation
We all understand peanut butter and jelly. It’s the sandwich you can make without thinking, often while somebody is asking you where their shoes are. NouBon’s Spicy Peanut Butter requires a little more planning. The heat is serious enough that you can’t simply assume your usual peanut butter-and-jelly combination will work.
I think you have to balance it with the right jelly. Something sweet needs to meet that heat in the middle, rather than leaving the peanut butter to take over everything. Finding that pairing is half the appeal. This is not the jar I’d grab when I want a completely ordinary sandwich, but that’s exactly why I’m so fascinated by it.
Ghost Pepper Peanut Butter Will Make You Question Your Life Decisions
Then there’s the Ghost Pepper Peanut Butter. You might look at it and think, how bad could peanut butter possibly be? That is the wrong question. This stuff is hot. Really hot. It’s the kind of heat that makes you rethink the decisions that brought you to this particular spoonful.
And somehow, I still want to do more with it. In fact, I’ve decided I want to try blending a small amount into a Thai-inspired cooking dish. Peanut flavor and serious chile heat could be fantastic alongside the right ingredients, if I get the balance right. That’s an idea for a future kitchen experiment, not a dish I’ve already made or tested. The ghost pepper deserves some respect before anyone starts improvising with it.

The Other NouBon Snacks Deserve Some Love Too
NouBon’s broader assortment includes Peanut Crunch, Coconut Clusters, Coconut Bites, Vanilla Fudge and Sweet Peanut Spread. According to co-founder Pierrelande Saint Cyr, who started the business with her sister Marie, the brand draws on Caribbean flavors and recipes they grew up with. It’s a lineup with more going on than another standard jar of peanut butter.
The snacks we received were great, and I don’t want them getting lost in the excitement. The sweets provide an appealing contrast to the spicy spreads, and the lineup makes it easy to see how NouBon could interest someone who likes exploring flavors beyond the familiar grocery-store staples. But if you’re asking what I kept going back to, there’s no contest. It’s the peanut butter.
Who Would Enjoy NouBon’s Spicy Peanut Butter?
This is for someone who enjoys real heat, not somebody who calls a little black pepper spicy. I’d start with the Spicy Peanut Butter if you’re curious, pair it thoughtfully and approach the Ghost Pepper version with particular caution. These are not products I’d casually give a small child or an unsuspecting guest. Check the ingredients and allergen information for your own household, too.
We tasted these spreads, but we haven’t tested them in cooked recipes or independently verified the company’s manufacturing and ingredient claims. The appeal I’m describing is the one I actually experienced: an unexpectedly bold combination of familiar peanut flavor and startling heat. I didn’t know I needed spicy peanut butter in my life, and I’m still not sure I needed it. But I am completely obsessed, and apparently my next plan involves putting ghost pepper peanut butter into dinner. What could possibly go wrong?
