When I think of Ocean Spray, cranberries are the first thing that comes to mind. I don’t necessarily think of a snack, but more of a Thanksgiving side dish that Aunt Marge always brings, and nobody really eats. So, when I heard that they had teamed up with Hershey’s to create a new snack, I was intrigued.
Ocean Spray & Hershey’s Cranberry Bites are like little niblets of chocolate with real cranberry underneath. Now, I know what you’re thinking, are they good? Dude, of course they’re good. They’re chocolate and cranberries. Under what world are chocolate and cranberries bad? Of course I loved them!
I wouldn’t exactly call them a healthy snack idea, but these are what I would call “mom snacks.” You know what I’m talking about – those snacks you hide in the back of the pantry, so your kids don’t find them. They’re perfect for when you’re hiding in the closet, trying to get away from your kids, and need a little pick-me-up.
We asked Monisha Dabek, Chief Commercial Officer, USA at Ocean Spray, “What better way to build our snack portfolio than to partner with Hershey’s, the #1 milk chocolate brand in the U.S., offering our consumers the ultimate snack to evolve the dried fruit category. It’s important for us to create products that are made from real fruit, innovating how we feature the cranberry in a variety of flavor combinations for year-round snacking and sweet treats for the whole family.”
I always get a kick out of press releases like this because they’re always describing it as a snack line and using nice words like “evolve” and “innovate.” This is the kind of snack that I eat when the husband and kids piss me the hell off. It kind of makes me feel slightly better about the universe, and that it’s cranberries in there for “healthy” purposes. But who am I kidding, I’m in it for the chocolate. What mom doesn’t love chocolate!
