Jarred Pasta Sauces Review – Carmine’s and Harry’s Famous

We tasted these sauces in 2025. In September 2026, Harry’s Famous announced that it was closing, so its Rosemary Red Wine Sauce is a historical tasting pick rather than a reliably available pantry option. Carmine’s still lists its Marinara, Tomato Basil, Vodka and Fra Diavolo sauces.

What made these sauces interesting to us was how differently they approached convenience: Harry’s Famous leaned into rosemary and red wine, while Carmine’s brought familiar restaurant-style red sauces into jars designed for home use.

When we reviewed Harry’s Famous Rosemary Red Wine Sauce, the defining flavors were exactly what the name promised: tomato, red wine and rosemary. We liked it most as a base for heartier pasta dishes, baked dishes and recipes where the sauce had room to contribute more than plain tomato flavor.

The brand continued publishing Rosemary Red Wine recipes into 2026, but its leadership announced in September 2026 that Harry’s Famous is closing after its retail experiment did not reach the scale required to continue. Remaining jars may still appear through retailers during sell-through, but shoppers should not assume ongoing production.

Carmine’s currently lists Marinara, Tomato Basil, Vodka and Fra Diavolo sauces. The lineup gives you a straightforward red sauce, a tomato-and-basil option, a creamier vodka sauce and a spicier Fra Diavolo.

The Fra Diavolo page currently describes a 32-ounce sauce made with Italian plum tomatoes, red pepper flakes, clam juice and white wine, which makes it especially suited to seafood pasta. The broader lineup gives home cooks several different directions without having to build a sauce from scratch.

Which Sauce Makes Sense Now?

Carmine’s is the current, easy-to-find choice from this original comparison. Harry’s Famous Rosemary Red Wine Sauce remains interesting as a 2025 tasting and as a distinctive rosemary-and-red-wine concept, but the brand’s September 2026 closure means availability should be checked before planning around it.
