The Ride1Up Cafe Cruiser sits somewhere between a relaxed cruiser and a practical utility e-bike. In our 2023 testing, the appeal was pretty straightforward: a comfortable riding position, fat tires, a built-in rear rack and enough electric assistance to make errands feel considerably less like exercise disguised as responsibility.

Ride1Up Cafe Cruiser Ride and Comfort

The Cafe Cruiser uses 26-inch wheels with 3-inch-wide tires and an 80mm suspension fork. That combination gave the bike a planted, forgiving feel on pavement and handled our trips through the park without turning every bump into a personal grievance.

The wider saddle and upright riding position also made sense for longer casual rides. This is not a lightweight road bike pretending to be sporty. It feels substantial, and that is part of the point.

Motor, Battery and Speed

The model we tested used a 750W motor and a 720Wh integrated battery. Ride1Up rated it as a Class 3 e-bike, with pedal assistance up to 28 mph and throttle operation up to 20 mph.

That assistance was useful both for everyday riding and when the bike’s weight became noticeable. We reached more than 20 mph under electric power during our rides. As always with an e-bike, local rules governing classes, throttles and where electric bikes may be ridden are worth checking before heading out.

The Rear Rack Makes the Bike More Useful

One of our favorite parts was the integrated rear rack. It turns the Cafe Cruiser from something you take out for a recreational ride into something that can handle groceries, a backpack or other everyday cargo.

That practicality matters. A bike can have impressive specifications, but the rack was the feature that made us more likely to grab it for an actual errand instead of admiring it in the garage while taking the car.

Assembly and Everyday Use

Assembly was manageable with the supplied instructions, and once set up, the Cafe Cruiser worked well for casual riding, errands and park trips. The large tires and suspension helped smooth rougher surfaces, while the step-through-friendly cruiser format made the bike approachable for everyday use.

What We Liked About the Cafe Cruiser

The Cafe Cruiser’s strongest combination was comfort, power and utility. The fat tires looked substantial but also contributed to the stable ride, while the rear rack made the bike genuinely useful. The integrated battery also kept the frame cleaner-looking than some earlier e-bike designs.

There are tradeoffs. A larger cruiser e-bike is not something everyone will enjoy carrying up stairs or squeezing into a small apartment, and riders looking for a nimble traditional bicycle may prefer something lighter. But that was never really this bike’s job.

Who the Ride1Up Cafe Cruiser Is For

In our 2023 experience, the Ride1Up Cafe Cruiser made the most sense for someone who wanted an e-bike for comfortable neighborhood rides and errands rather than chasing cycling records. The motor supplied the fun, but the rack, riding position and chunky tires were what made it useful.

And yes, once you discover you can bike to the store without arriving sweaty and still bring the groceries home, suddenly the car starts looking a little needy.
