Ritter Sport and Ghirardelli Chocolate Picks

Chocolate is one of the few household decisions that can become complicated for absolutely no reason. One person wants something smooth. Someone else wants nuts. Another person wants caramel, but only if it crunches. Suddenly the simple act of opening a chocolate bar feels like you are running a tiny dessert focus group.

For this 2026 tasting, we tried a lineup from Ritter Sport and Ghirardelli that covered very different kinds of milk chocolate in one small stack: Ritter Sport Pistachio, Whole Hazelnuts and Alpine Milk Chocolate, along with Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate, Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Almond and Milk Chocolate Caramel Crisp. If Ritter Sport is your main interest, we also have a separate Ritter Sport chocolate review.

Ritter Sport Brings the Nuts

Ritter Sport is the square-bar side of this chocolate equation, and the three varieties we tasted covered a surprisingly useful range. The Pistachio bar combined milk chocolate with pistachios, giving it a little salt and crunch alongside the sweetness.

Whole Hazelnuts went even further into the nut category. The bar we tried was packed with crunchy hazelnuts, which gave a few squares more texture and substance than plain chocolate.

Then there was Alpine Milk Chocolate, the calm one in the group. No nuts to negotiate around, no crunch to explain. We found it smooth and straightforward, making it the easiest bar here for someone who just wants classic milk chocolate with a little more personality.

Ghirardelli Covers Smooth, Salty, and Crunchy

Ghirardelli took a similar three-lane approach in the bars we sampled. The solid Milk Chocolate bar was the straightforward option, which is useful when the person eating the chocolate believes ingredients should stop interfering with the chocolate.

The Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Almond bar added almond pieces and sea salt. The bar was scored into squares, making it easy to break apart for sharing, portioning, or pretending you are only going to eat two pieces.

Milk Chocolate Caramel Crisp was the texture-driven choice. The caramel crunch gave the bar more going on than plain milk chocolate without turning it into a full candy-bar production. For us, it fit nicely between the straightforward Milk Chocolate and the nuttier Sea Salt Almond.

Which Chocolate Bar Fits Which Mood

If you want the simplest option from the bars we tasted, start with Ritter Sport Alpine Milk Chocolate or Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate. If nuts are the point, Ritter Sport Pistachio and Whole Hazelnuts were the strongest candidates. For salty-sweet, Ghirardelli Sea Salt Almond stood out, while Ghirardelli Caramel Crisp offered crunch without a nut-heavy bar.

That range made the collection useful for a family snack drawer, movie night, coffee break or casual gift. There was enough variety to satisfy different chocolate preferences without forcing everyone to agree on one supposedly perfect bar. For another very different chocolate option, our Lovetta Dubai Chocolate Bar review goes in a much more elaborate direction. Chocolate diplomacy may not solve every household disagreement, but six bars certainly improve the odds.
