Sugar Factory Times Square Review: Over-the-Top Desserts, Goblets and Family Fun

Let’s be honest—there are restaurants, and then there’s Sugar Factory. This place isn’t subtle. It’s a visual explosion, an Instagram fever dream with enough lights, colors and chaos to overwhelm even the most seasoned partygoer. It’s like walking into a club hosted by Willy Wonka. And that’s the point.

If you’re looking for a quiet candlelit dinner, this is not it. But if you’re planning a birthday, taking kids into Times Square, or want something wildly different before or after a Broadway show, Sugar Factory absolutely understands the assignment.

What Is Sugar Factory Times Square Like?

Sugar Factory leans hard into the over-the-top atmosphere. Loud music, bright décor and photo-ready food make the whole restaurant feel part dining room and part event space. The official Times Square location spans two floors and includes a café, candy retail area and main dining room.

The crowd skews celebratory. You’ll see birthdays, families, groups of friends and people who came specifically for one of the giant smoking goblets. If you want calm, go elsewhere. If you want spectacle, this is the spectacle.

Are the Sugar Factory Goblets Worth It?

The goblets are one of the main attractions. Ours arrived bubbling and smoking with dry ice, loaded with candy and designed to be photographed before you even think about taking a sip. Some taste closer to liquid candy than a traditional cocktail, which is either a warning or an endorsement depending on your sugar tolerance.

The current Times Square menu still features Sugar Factory’s signature candy goblets in both alcoholic and nonalcoholic versions, so families and kids can get in on the ridiculous presentation too.

How Is the Food at Sugar Factory?

Here’s what surprised me: the food wasn’t just there to support the Instagram photos. I expected average food hidden behind flashy plating, but our meal was better than that.

The burger was genuinely good—juicy, well cooked and paired with thick, crisp fries. The Mother’s Day shrimp cocktail came in a flashy glass but still delivered on flavor. The restaurant may be built around spectacle, but at least during our visit, the kitchen held up its end of the deal.

What Are the Desserts Like?

This is where restraint leaves the building. We tried the Strawberry Cheesecake Waffle: a warm waffle with strawberries, New York cheesecake, strawberry sauce and whipped cream. It was rich, wildly excessive and somehow worked.

The portions are huge. One dessert can easily be shared, especially if you have already eaten dinner. That makes Sugar Factory a reasonable post-theater stop if the goal is dessert rather than a full second meal.

Is Sugar Factory Times Square Good for Kids?

Yes, if your kids enjoy noise, color, candy and giant desserts. The restaurant is naturally entertaining, and service during our visit was surprisingly quick. That matters in Times Square when you’re trying to fit dinner around a show or keeping younger kids from hitting the wall.

Sugar Factory is loud, excessive and absolutely not for everyone. But it is also fun, memorable and—most surprisingly—better food than we expected. For a birthday, family outing, teen-friendly celebration or simply a break from the normal dinner routine, it delivers exactly the kind of over-the-top Times Square experience people come looking for.
