In 2024, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters partnered with Kevin Costner on Horizon Blend, a dark-roast coffee created as part of the brand’s Brew a Better World platform. I tried the K-Cup version as a black-coffee drinker and found it most appealing for people who prefer a darker, smoky cup without loading it with cream or sugar.

What Does Horizon Blend Taste Like?

The first thing I noticed was the aroma: dark, roasted, and smoky. In the cup, the coffee is full-bodied and assertive without becoming as harsh as some dark roasts can be.

The flavor leans toward earthy and smoky notes rather than sweetness. If you already like Green Mountain’s darker coffees, the profile should feel familiar.

How It Compares With Green Mountain Dark Magic

Dark Magic has been one of my regular Green Mountain choices, so it was a useful reference point. Horizon Blend lands in the same general dark-roast territory, but I found it smooth enough to drink black without the bitterness that can make some darker coffees tiring over a full mug.

That makes it a better fit for dark-roast drinkers than for anyone who prefers light, bright, fruit-forward coffee.

K-Cup Convenience and Packaging

I tested the K-Cup format, which keeps preparation simple and consistent. The larger package I received was divided into smaller boxes, something I appreciated when storing the pods or taking part of the supply somewhere else.
