Summer means late night smores for the kids and late night vino for mommy by the fire pit. I am happy to have a chance to test out some great choices from Little Black Dress wines this week. Winemaker Margaret Leonardi knows we ladies like something “affordable, approachable and yummy” and she brings us just that. I just added a few of their bottles to my mommy night in at my home and I was absolutely thrilled. The Company had recently changed up their packaging to a more sleek and sophisticated look that takes the “Little Black Dress” from casual to classy. We all like to say we don’t judge a book by its cover but we all basically do. I know I would pick this bottle up off the shelf with its pretty script lbd labeling. Wine options include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pink Pinot, Diva Red, Merlot, Moscato, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir. I tried out two of these and both did NOT disappoint. Their 2014 Chardonnay has a wonderful and warm fruity (apple and pear) flavor. This is wonderful in a chilled wine glass with a few pieces of chilled fruit added in. I also tasted delicious hints of wood and vanilla. So smooth and perfect and in my opinion a wonderful companion to whatever it is that you are doing. I am by nature a “red chick” so I was so excited to test out their 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon. You get an immediate taste of berries and oak/wood. You can not only taste the fruit but also smell it the minute you open the bottle. I also grabbed a bit of vanilla which was the perfect complement. I will say this: whether you are a white wine or red wine fan, either would be great to compliment whatever you have going on: BBQ, steaks, poultry, fish, appetizers: it just doesn’t matter.
