Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 Review

Masterbuilt provided Famadillo with a Gravity Series 600 review unit. Our hands-on experience began with assembly, where shifted firebrick pieces inside the hopper caused confusion and slowed the setup. Masterbuilt support supplied instructions for reinstalling the pieces and said small chips at one corner should not affect operation. That matters because a grill designed around convenience still has to be straightforward to put together.

What the Gravity Series 600 Is Designed to Do

The Gravity Series 600 combines charcoal cooking with digital temperature control. Masterbuilt lists a cooking range of 225°F to 700°F, while the WiFi-connected app is designed to let users set and monitor temperatures, receive alerts and follow connected meat probes. Those features should appeal to backyard cooks who want charcoal flavor without making constant manual adjustments at the grill.

The reversible cast-iron grates support both smoking and higher-temperature searing. Masterbuilt also offers an optional pizza oven and rotisserie, but those accessories are separate purchases and should not be treated as part of the grill’s standard value.

The Hopper and Our Assembly Experience

The gravity-fed hopper is the feature that separates this grill from a conventional charcoal setup. According to Masterbuilt, it holds up to 12 pounds of lump charcoal or 18 pounds of briquettes and can provide up to 18 hours of fuel. Charcoal feeds downward while the DigitalFan manages airflow to maintain the selected temperature.

Our review unit did not provide a completely smooth first impression. Several firebrick pieces had shifted inside the hopper, and small chips at a corner made the problem initially look like shipping damage. After Famadillo sent photographs, Masterbuilt support explained how to reinstall the pieces and said the small chips should not interfere with use. The company offered further help if the issue continued. The response was useful, but the extra troubleshooting made assembly more frustrating than it should have been.

Who This Grill Is For

The Gravity Series 600 makes the most sense for someone who values charcoal flavor but wants digital help managing the fire. The hopper capacity and broad temperature range make the design suitable for both shorter grilling sessions and longer smoking projects, while the app reduces the need to remain beside the grill throughout a cook.

Its principal limitation in our experience was setup rather than the feature list. Buyers should expect a substantial assembly project and inspect the hopper components before proceeding. Our experience supports a judgment about the grill’s construction, controls and setup, but not a claim about long-term durability or repeat cooking performance.

Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 Review Verdict

The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 600 has a compelling idea at its center: preserve charcoal cooking while using a hopper, fan and app to reduce fire management. The design should suit cooks who want that combination, but our difficult assembly experience keeps this from being an unqualified recommendation. The underlying features are useful; the out-of-box setup should have been easier.
