In the world of painting and art, Bob Ross’s perm and gentle voice has long been an inspiration to aspiring artists. However, the newest movie “Paint” brings a fresh take on this iconic figure, with Owen Wilson taking on the role of Carl Nargle, a painter with a signature perm who finds himself facing competition from a new, up-and-coming artist.

Owen Wilson Channels Bob Ross in “Paint”

Owen Wilson gives his best Bob Ross impression in the trailer for “Paint,” a new comedy about the joy of painting. Wilson plays the character Carl Nargle, the host of Vermont’s beloved public television series who has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans who hang on his every stroke.

New Competition Threatens Carl’s Painting Success

However, after years at the top, a new painter named Ambrosia (played by Ciara Reneé) starts her own TV program, “Paint with Ambrosia,” which threatens to overshadow Carl’s success. The sudden competition leads Carl to spiral into depression, despite having fans who adore his work.

Wilson Brings Warmth and Delicacy to His Performance

Directed by Brit McAdam, “Paint” has a touch of Napoleon Dynamite’s thrift store innocence, but it’s Wilson’s performance that truly shines. Wilson brings a warmth and delicacy to Carl, while still keeping the necessary resentment on a low simmer. With a solid supporting cast that includes Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus, Lucy Freyer, and Stephen Root, “Paint” promises to be a heartwarming and hilarious movie.

A New Take on a Painting Icon

Please note that this movie is not a biopic about Bob Ross. It’s a new take on a beloved painting icon, and Wilson does a fantastic job of bringing the character of Carl Nargle to life. “Paint” opens in theaters on April 7, 2023, and is a must-see for anyone who loves art, painting, or just a good laugh. Get ready for a movie full of laughs and heart!
