SPROUT’s NEW Plant Powered Protein Purees & Snacks

SPROUT plant proteinPureed snacks in a pouch, whether produce-based or yogurt, have become quite popular, and not just with babies. Let’s face it, pouches are easy to pack for lunch or snack and they’re not messy. SPROUT has been making all natural, organic baby food products for a decade now, and toddler snacks for almost as long. They are certainly known for their fruit, veggie, and combo pouches.

Now, SPROUT has a new pouch line: Plant Protein Blends. These plant-based protein purees are produced with the purpose of giving parents an all-natural option to introduce their babies to protein sources other than meat and dairy products. All of the Plant Protein Blends are vegan, USDA certified organic, and non-GMO. The main sources of protein found in these purees are chickpeas and beans, although some of the vegetables contain protein as well, such as spinach and corn. The Plant Protein Blends are available at both the Stage 2 (six months and up) and the Stage 3 (eight months and up) levels.

The Stage 2 Plant Protein Blends include Butternut Blueberry Apple with Beans, Carrot Chickpeas Zucchini Pear, and Sweet Potato White Beans with Cinnamon. If you’re not already familiar with SPROUT products, then you’ll notice the pouch names seem a little long and perhaps not very creative. They do that because they want the main ingredients to be highlighted. In fact, the only ingredient not listed in the name of the Butternut Blueberry Apple with Beans flavor is lemon juice. The Carrot Chickpeas Zucchini Pear also has raisins and lemon juice, and the Sweet Potato White Beans with Cinnamon names it all.

Stage 3 also offers three unique blends, as well as a new fourth option. The Stage 3 flavors consist of Butternut Chickpea Quinoa Dates (with a little olive oil and ginger mixed in), Pumpkin Apple Red Lentil with Cinnamon (which includes raisins and coconut oil), Sweet Pea Carrot Corn White Bean (with olive oil and sea salt), and the newest flavor for 2018, Spinach Carrot Corn and Black Bean (with the addition of brown rice, coconut oil, sea salt, and cumin).

SPROUT organic crinklez

I have to admit, as an adult, I have not tried these, but my daughter loves fruit-based pouches. It is her normal routine to have one every day. She also likes veggie chips and crackers, which leads me to another of SPROUT’s products: Organic Crinklez. SPROUT Organic Crinklez are popped snacks that are basically a kind of a combination of the two.

SPROUT Organic Crinklez are designed for toddlers. They are the perfect size for a toddler’s hands, and the bags are easy to open and resealable. Like the Plant Protein Blends, the Organic Crinklez are also made with chickpeas for added protein. There are currently two flavors: Cheesy Spinach and Pumpkin Carrot. Both flavors are gluten-free and made with a combination of spinach, carrots, and beets. While the Cheesy Spinach does contain dairy due to the cheese, the Pumpkin Carrot is vegan.

You can buy SPROUT products in most grocery stores, from the SPROUT website, or from Amazon. For more information, or to see what other products are available, check out SPROUT’s website at www.sproutorganicfoods.com. As always, let us know what you, or in this case, what your kids think.
