Wilde Protein Chips are exactly the kind of snack that makes you reread the bag: crispy chips made primarily from chicken breast rather than potatoes. We tried them in 2023, and the texture landed somewhere between a traditional chip and a very thin savory protein snack.
What are Wilde Protein Chips made from?
Wilde currently builds its protein chips from chicken breast, along with ingredients such as egg whites and chicken bone broth depending on the flavor. The company now sells several flavors, including Himalayan Pink Salt, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Buffalo, Chicken & Waffles, Barbeque, Spicy Queso, Buttermilk Ranch, and Korean Sweet & Spicy.
How do they taste?
The flavor profile is unusual if you are expecting a potato chip. To us, the chips had a savory chicken-forward taste with a crisp crunch. The seasoning matters a lot: stronger flavors such as Buffalo or Chicken & Waffles can make the format feel more familiar than eating an unseasoned chicken-based crisp.
We also had a vegetarian nearly try one before noticing what they were made from, which was a useful reminder that these are very much a meat-based snack despite the familiar chip shape.
Are they healthier than potato chips?
That depends on what you are comparing and what matters in your diet. Wilde emphasizes protein, but “higher protein” does not automatically mean a snack is healthier for everyone. Calories, sodium, allergens, ingredients, and serving size still matter, so compare the nutrition panel with the snacks you would otherwise eat.
Current Wilde Protein Chips
Wilde still sells chicken-breast-based protein chips in a range of flavors. Ingredients, protein amounts and packaging vary by product.
