El Ojo, also called Eye Island, is a nearly circular floating island in Argentina’s Paraná Delta. Its shape and apparent movement have inspired both natural explanations and unsupported supernatural stories.
Where Is El Ojo?
The island sits in a wetland area of the Paraná Delta northeast of Buenos Aires. It is surrounded by a narrow channel that makes the landform resemble an eye when viewed from above.
Why the Island Appears to Move
Floating islands can form when dense mats of roots and aquatic plants separate from surrounding wetland. Wind and water can move these masses, while contact with the surrounding bank may help shape them. Satellite images from different dates have been used to show El Ojo in changing positions.
How El Ojo Became Famous
Argentine filmmaker Sergio Neuspiller drew attention to the site while scouting a project. Accounts of returning to find the island in a different position helped turn it into an internet curiosity and prompted interest in a scientific investigation.
Natural Feature or Mystery?
Stories have connected El Ojo with UFOs, secret bases and other paranormal ideas, but those claims are speculation rather than evidence. A floating mat shaped by vegetation, wind, water and repeated contact with its channel is the more grounded explanation.

The striking circular outline and rotation make El Ojo visually distinctive among floating islands. The available imagery is intriguing, but exact measurements, formation dates and claims about constant movement should be treated cautiously unless supported by field research.
