Eco-friendly oral care does not have to mean replacing every product in the bathroom at once. For our family, the most practical approach has been to look for lower-waste options that still make brushing and flossing easy enough to keep using every day.
Certifications, materials, formulas, packaging and sustainability programs can change, so check current manufacturer information before buying. For children’s oral care or questions about toothpaste ingredients, fluoride or dental treatment, follow your dentist or pediatric dentist’s guidance.
What Makes Oral Care More Eco-Friendly?
There is no single definition that makes a toothbrush, toothpaste or floss automatically “eco-friendly.” A useful way to compare products is to look at the materials, how much packaging they use, whether components can be reused or replaced, and whether the product is something your family will actually use consistently.
That last part matters. A lower-waste toothbrush does not help much if nobody likes using it. We focused on products that tried to reduce plastic or packaging while still fitting into a normal brushing routine.
Plus Ultra Oral Care for Adults

Plus Ultra caught our attention because the brand positioned its oral-care line around sustainability. In 2023, the company offered bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste, whitening strips and oral-care accessories, giving adults several ways to reduce reliance on conventional plastic-heavy products.
What we liked most was that the products did not require a completely different routine. A bamboo toothbrush still feels familiar, which makes it a more realistic swap than products that demand a major habit change.
What We Liked About Plus Ultra

At the time of our review, Plus Ultra highlighted plant-based ingredients, lower-waste packaging and its B Corporation certification as part of its sustainability positioning. Those are company-level claims that can change, so they are best treated as part of the brand’s 2023 profile rather than permanent guarantees.
From a practical standpoint, the biggest appeal was simplicity: products designed to fit into an existing dental routine while giving shoppers an alternative to a conventional plastic toothbrush and heavily packaged personal-care products.
Jack N’ Jill Oral Care for Kids

For children, usability matters even more. We tried Jack N’ Jill Kids toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, and the biggest success in our house was simple: the colorful designs made brushing feel more fun. Our kids were more willing to use them and were more likely to remind us when it was time to brush.
In 2023, the brand promoted materials and packaging intended to reduce environmental impact, including biodegradable or plant-based components in parts of its range. Because formulas and materials can vary by product and year, parents should check the current package rather than assuming every item in the line has the same composition.
Eco-Friendly Does Not Automatically Mean Better for Your Teeth
One important distinction is that “natural,” “plant-based” and “eco-friendly” are not substitutes for dental guidance. The best oral-care product is one that supports effective brushing and flossing and meets the needs of the person using it. Families should pay attention to dentist recommendations, age guidance and the active ingredients in toothpaste rather than choosing solely on environmental marketing.
If you are comparing newer dental products, our Oclean toothbrush review looks at a very different approach to home oral care, using rechargeable electric toothbrush technology instead of a low-waste manual brush.
Bottom Line
Our 2023 experience with Plus Ultra and Jack N’ Jill showed that lower-waste oral care can fit into an ordinary family routine. Plus Ultra made the most sense as a straightforward adult swap, while Jack N’ Jill stood out because the kid-friendly design actually encouraged our children to brush.
The useful question is not whether a product is perfectly “green.” It is whether it reduces waste in a meaningful way, works well for your family and still supports the basic oral-care habits your dentist recommends.
