Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids. But with 2 kids under 3, lets just say mommy’s ready for a drink once bedtime hits. And by bedtime, I mean their bedtime. So when I was given the opportunity to review the new additions to the skinnygirl line for our holiday gift guide, lets just say I jumped at the chance. Plus, Bethenny Frankel is a mom too, so she gets it! Skinnygirl Moscato I started with the Skinnygirl Moscato and to be honest I was a little skeptical. My husband and I went on vacation to Napa a few years back, and while I am no aficionado, I do feel like I have a taste for good wine. However, The skinnygirl moscato turned out to be a good competitor. Wait scratch that, it was great! Now, I do prefer a slightly sweeter wine, so a moscato was really right up my alley. In fact, it was a treat for me. Being married to a man who isn’t typically a drinker of sweeter wines, it isn’t something we often have on hand. At $14.99 a bottle, I would absolutely buy this again for a girls night out (or in). It tastes great. Light, crisp, and as an added bonus has only 100 calories a glass! I would go so far as to say that this might be a little dangerous to have around the house. It’s that good. Skinnygirl® Mojito Ahhhh, the mojito…how I do love thee. I can still remember my first ever mojito, sometime in the late 90’s, at a hip Cuban restaurant in downtown Philadelphia. To this day I can picture the huge ceiling fans and taste that fizzy, minty, muddled deliciousness and it is almost as though I am being transported to Cuba. But I digress… Fast forward more years than I care to think about and it’s a whole new ball game. Or is it? With the Skinnygirl® Mojito I get all the taste of the original mojito, with significantly less calories and preparation. Who can argue with that? Particularly since we have already established that there are two sleeping kids upstairs. Time is of the essence, and calories matter. This way mommy can have her cake and eat it too-without filling up! The mojito is from the ready to serve line, meaning you can literally open and pour. And believe me, it is good enough that you could easily drink way more than intended if you weren’t paying attention. But it’s worth taking the extra minute or two to grab some fresh mint and ice cubes and shake it up a bit. Perfection. Cuba here I come! Again, at a mere 100 calories a glass and only $14.99 a bottle, its almost too good to be true.
Also from the ready to serve line, the Skinnygirl® Sweet n Tart Grapefruit Margarita, is a refreshingly tangy tequila based cocktail. To be fair, I am not much of a tequila drinker, but even so I found this pretty tasty. The flavor of the tequila is not overpowering and like the mojito it can be served as is or with a little effort can be turned into a first class cocktail. With the help of my beloved vitamix, 2 cup of ice, and 1/2 cup of the skinnygirl margarita, I was sipping a slushy, citrusy treat that had me rethinking my avoidance of tequila! I know, I know, this is supposed to be a holiday round up and here I am talking frozen cocktails suitable for poolside. But really, a margarita is appropriate for any time of year right? Skinnygirl White Cherry Vodka It’s no exaggeration to say that I saved the best for last with this review. The Skinnygirl White Cherry Vodka was a revelation. Now I’ve had my share of flavored vodkas and i can honestly say this this ranks right up there with the best. The flavor was slightly sweet but with just a hint of vanilla. If you are looking for a yummy cocktail with very few calories, I don’t know that there is anything better than the cherry vodka mixed with a splash of diet coke. It literally tastes like a cherry coke, but better! Plus vodka is such a versatile drink–have it straight, on the rocks, with a mixer, or as part of an elaborate cocktail. One of my favorites:
- 1 ½ parts Skinnygirl White Cherry Vodka,
- 2 parts pomegranate juice,
- 1/2 a lime squeezed, over ice,
Shaken-not stirred, thank you very much. Delish! Weighing in at a mere 77 calories per serving, the Skinnygirl White Cherry Vodka leaves you room to imbibe with very little guilt. Especially when you are trying to hold it together and squeak through the holidays without having to break out the fat pants. Retailing for $21.99 a bottle, this (or any of the extensive Skinnygirl line) is the perfect hostess gift, sure to secure your invite to next years party!
