MarieBelle NYC Afternoon Tea Review: High Tea at the SoHo Cacao Bar

MarieBelle’s SoHo Cacao Bar offers one of New York City’s more distinctive afternoon tea experiences, combining traditional tea-service elements with the chocolate-focused personality of the brand. We visited in 2023 and found the experience more memorable for the mix of savory bites, pastries and hot chocolate than for formality alone.

What Comes With MarieBelle Afternoon Tea?

During our visit, the tea service included a mix of savory and sweet items rather than focusing only on pastries. We had tea or coffee, a seasonal salad, mini pastries, macarons, scones with jam and Devonshire-style clotted cream, plus several small savory bites.

The savory selections were some of the strongest parts of the meal. Salmon with dill cream cheese, endive with blue cheese and walnuts, ham with Gruyère and a hummus-and-cucumber bite gave the service enough variety that it did not feel like dessert from start to finish.

MarieBelle Hot Chocolate Is Part of the Appeal

MarieBelle is best known for chocolate, so the hot chocolate was a natural addition to the experience. The versions we tried were rich without making the rest of the tea service feel redundant.

That chocolate connection is what separates MarieBelle from a more conventional hotel-style tea. If you are choosing this specifically because you love the brand’s cacao products, the setting makes sense.

Atmosphere at the SoHo Cacao Bar

The room was cozy, ornate and much more intimate than a large hotel dining room. It had an old-world, European feel that suited a leisurely tea service.

Service also contributed a lot to the experience. Our server was playful and generous with samples, which made the visit feel less stiff than some traditional afternoon teas.

Is MarieBelle Afternoon Tea Worth It?

For us, yes—especially if you want a special-occasion experience that combines afternoon tea with MarieBelle’s chocolate identity. The savory food kept the meal balanced, while the scones, pastries and hot chocolate delivered the indulgent side you would expect.

It is best approached as an experience rather than simply a way to get tea and snacks.

Is MarieBelle Afternoon Tea Still Available?

Yes. As of September 2026, MarieBelle’s SoHo Cacao Bar still advertises afternoon high tea at its 484 Broome Street location.

MarieBelle NYC Afternoon Tea Review: Bottom Line

MarieBelle worked for us because it felt distinctive rather than generic: savory bites, pastries, scones and tea were all part of the experience, but the chocolate connection gave it its own personality. If you are looking for an afternoon tea in SoHo with a strong dessert-and-cacao angle, it remains an appealing option.
