Senza Gluten is a hidden gem in the heart of New York City. It is the most allergy-friendly restaurant we have come across, with a team that is quite knowledgeable about gluten-free dining. From the moment you step in, you are welcomed by a gorgeous atmosphere that is intimate and candle-lit, making it the perfect place for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends.
One of the things that stood out to us was that they start you off with gluten-free bread. This is such a nice gesture and great to know for those who suffer from celiac disease. Senza Gluten is by far the most accommodating restaurant we have seen for allergies, with no cross-contamination concerns whatsoever. In fact, we found them to be even more accommodating than even Disney World, which is known for being on the ball with special dietary needs.
We tried the calamari and it tasted crispy and not much different from the gluten-filled version. The main dishes were, of course, all gluten-free. We loved the cheese tortellini and the spaghetti al vongole. The gnocchi was different from what we expected but still very nice.
When it came to dessert, we were impressed with the options. We had the poached pear, the tiramisu, and the crème brûlée. The tiramisu usually has cookies in it, but Senza Gluten has found a way to make it gluten-free by using their homemade gluten-free ladyfingers. The result is a light and flavorful dessert that doesn’t compromise on taste.
The story of how Senza Gluten came to be is quite interesting. It all started when their friend was diagnosed with celiac disease more than 20 years ago. They saw how challenging it was for their friend to find restaurants that catered to their dietary needs, so they decided to open their own gluten-free restaurant. Now, much of their clientele comes from word of mouth, with people passing on the word about this amazing gluten-free restaurant.
Overall, Senza Gluten is a must-visit restaurant for anyone who suffers from celiac disease or other allergies. The team is incredibly accommodating, and the food is top-notch. We highly recommend giving them a try and experiencing their unique take on Italian cuisine.
