Range Rover P400 Review of Comfort and Road Presence

Range Rover P400 luxury SUV exterior

Our 2023 Range Rover P400 review came down to two things: comfort and presence. It was a large luxury SUV that felt substantial from behind the wheel and drew attention almost everywhere we took it.

The reaction was immediate. I showed it to a friend’s father-in-law, who has a habit of stretching the word “beautiful” whenever something really impresses him. The Range Rover earned several extra syllables.

The Range Rover P400 Had Serious Road Presence

The P400 looked expensive without needing much explanation. Its size, proportions and clean exterior design gave it the kind of presence that made people notice it in parking lots and at stoplights.

A Costco run became a surprisingly good test of that. People looked at the SUV, looked again, and generally treated it like something more interesting than the carts, bulk paper towels and industrial quantities of hummus around it.

That attention will appeal to some buyers more than others. Still, it was undeniably part of the experience.

The Cabin Felt Calm and Premium

Inside, the P400 matched the exterior with a quiet, polished cabin. The materials felt upscale, the seats were comfortable, and the overall layout made the SUV feel more relaxed than flashy.

The leather, trim and general fit-and-finish were the details we noticed most. Nothing needed to shout for attention because the cabin already felt expensive in the straightforward way luxury cars are supposed to feel expensive.

Small Features Added to the Experience

The retractable exterior door handles were one of those features that seemed unnecessary until we used them. They contributed to the clean look and made the vehicle feel a little more special each time we got in.

The audio system and surrounding cabin technology also fit the same theme. The P400 did not rely on one giant party trick. Instead, it stacked a lot of smaller premium details together.

The Size Was Part of the Appeal

The Range Rover felt substantial on the road. That gave it a sense of stability and confidence during our drive, although the same size also meant it was never going to feel like a small city runabout.

For us, the appeal was the combination of a commanding seating position, a comfortable cabin and the sense that the vehicle could handle long drives without making them feel like work.

Cabin Air Quality Was an Unexpected Detail

During the same period, wildfire smoke from Canada affected air quality in our area. The Range Rover’s cabin-air display gave us an interesting real-world look at how quickly the cabin reading changed with the climate system running.

We wrote separately about that observation in our story on car air quality during wildfire smoke.

Who the Range Rover P400 Made Sense For

The P400 made the most sense for someone who wanted a luxury SUV with a strong road presence, a genuinely comfortable cabin and the kind of details that made ordinary driving feel more polished.

It was not subtle, and it was not trying to be. During our 2023 drive, that was exactly the point.

If you are comparing larger Land Rover models, our Land Rover Defender 130 review takes a more rugged approach to a similarly substantial SUV.
