Solight SolarPuff Solar Lantern Review

The Solight SolarPuff is a collapsible solar lantern designed to give you portable light without disposable batteries. I originally tried it because, as a real estate agent, I sometimes walk into homes where the lights do not work or the electricity has been turned off. In those situations, this little lantern turned out to be much more useful than relying on my phone flashlight.

How Bright Is the Solight SolarPuff?

The first thing that stood out was how much of the room it could illuminate. Instead of a narrow flashlight beam, the cube-shaped lantern spreads light around the space, which made it easier for me to see where I was walking and what I was looking at inside a dark house.

For my use, that broad light was more practical than holding up a phone and trying to aim its flashlight at one spot at a time.

Collapsible Design and Easy Storage

One of the SolarPuff’s biggest advantages is its shape. It collapses almost flat, so I could leave it in the car to charge and then slip it into my purse when I needed it. Folded down, it takes up roughly the space of a large wallet.

That makes it useful not only around the house but also for travel, camping, a car emergency kit or any situation where you want backup lighting without carrying a bulky lantern.

Light Modes and Automatic Dusk Sensor

In manual mode, the lantern offers low, high and blinking light settings. It also has a light-sensor mode that can turn the lantern on at dusk and off at dawn. Holding the button for several seconds switches between manual and sensor modes.

That flexibility means it can work as an emergency light, a backyard accent light or a portable lantern depending on what you need at the moment.

Solar Charging and Emergency Use

The lantern does not require disposable batteries, which is one reason I liked keeping it around for outages. When we tested the lantern, the manufacturer stated that a full charge could provide up to 12 hours of continuous lighting after roughly 8 to 10 hours of direct sun. Actual performance will depend on sun exposure, brightness setting and battery condition.

Water Resistance and Outdoor Uses

The SolarPuff is lightweight and built for outdoor use, so it also makes sense for patios, camping and backyard lighting. Because it uses LED light rather than a flame, it can be a convenient alternative to candles when you simply need illumination during a power outage or outside at night.

Bottom Line

The Solight SolarPuff worked especially well for me because it solved a very specific problem: I needed a bright, portable light that could live in the car, flatten down for storage and work without constantly replacing batteries. The broad room-filling light, simple controls and compact design made it more useful than my phone flashlight for dark houses and a practical piece of emergency gear to keep nearby.
