Historical review: THE RIDE ended operations on October 16, 2022. This review reflects our family experience when the attraction was running.
THE RIDE was not an ordinary New York City tour bus. The custom coach used sideways stadium seating, glass walls, lighting and screens to turn sightseeing into part tour and part live show.
What the experience was like
From the moment we boarded, the atmosphere was loud, playful and theatrical. The hosts kept the trip moving with jokes, trivia and interaction while performers and city landmarks became part of the experience outside the bus.
The format worked surprisingly well with kids. Our daughter stayed engaged throughout the ride, which is not always a given with a long sightseeing activity.
A moving New York show
The route could shift with traffic and construction, so the experience did not feel like a rigid bus loop. We saw familiar New York landmarks from a very different angle while the show continued around us.
At the time, we thought it was a memorable family experience and worth doing for visitors who wanted something more theatrical than a traditional sightseeing tour.
THE RIDE has closed
The company ended operations after 12 years, with its final performance on October 16, 2022. This review remains as a record of the attraction while it was operating. Playbill documented the final day of operations.
