This interview was conducted in 2023. Audience size, projects, partnerships and other career details may have changed since then.

Alex and Jon built an audience by turning their relationship, creative backgrounds and career changes into short-form comedy and conversation. In this 2023 interview, the husband-and-wife creators discussed TikTok, their podcast Give It To Me Straight, branded content and the move into full-time content creation.

How Alex and Jon got started on TikTok

Both came to TikTok with creative experience. Jon had worked as a physical therapist while also filming and editing weddings, small businesses and real estate projects. Alex had an editing background and saw short-form video as another place to use those skills.

Jon recalled their early approach simply: “We thought, why not give it a try?” They said creating together sharpened their skills and gave audiences a way to see more of their personalities than a single scripted skit could show.

From short-form video to Give It To Me Straight

Their podcast, Give It To Me Straight, expanded the conversation beyond social clips. In 2023 they described covering relationships, dating, money, friendships and entrepreneurship, using the longer format to build a more personal connection with listeners.

Jon’s transition from healthcare to content creation

Moving from healthcare into full-time creative work required Jon to get comfortable in front of the camera rather than behind it. He credited Alex with helping him through that learning curve.

He also described leaving the security of traditional employment as difficult. The turning point came when their work began generating enough income to demonstrate that creating together could become a full-time career.

Their advice for aspiring creators

Alex and Jon emphasized consistency, originality and avoiding imitation. Alex’s advice was to keep publishing rather than overthinking the intimidating early stages of building an audience.

How they approached brand partnerships

By 2023, the couple had worked on branded content for companies including McDonald’s, Lowe’s and Universal. Alex said they tried to choose partnerships that fit their interests and audience rather than treating branded work exactly like their personal content. Those partnerships are historical references and do not imply current relationships with the brands.

Cringe and what was next

At the time of our interview, Alex and Jon were also discussing Cringe, a short film about couples creating content for social media and the gap between a polished online image and the work behind it. It represented an expansion from social video and podcasting into longer-form storytelling.

Bottom line

The most useful part of Alex and Jon’s story was not their follower count but the career transition behind it: they combined existing creative skills, learned a new platform together and gradually turned an uncertain experiment into professional work. Their 2023 comments also underline a recurring lesson for new creators—consistency and a recognizable point of view matter more than copying whatever is already popular.
