Paname Restaurant

If you are in Midtown Manhattan and are looking for a fantastic Contemporary French meal I have the very spot you are searching for.  Located at 1068 Second Avenue at 56th Street, Paname is a wonderfully intimate restaurant perfect for lunch or dinner.  I stopped in this week for lunch and was thrilled with the menu choices and service.  The menu hosts great choices from salads to omelette, sandwiches, pastas, steaks, seafood and more.  They have a fantastic Prix Fixe menu for both lunch and dinner.  I took advantage of their lunch special; $25.00 for your choice of appetizer, main course and dessert.  Myself and a guest were treated to a wonderful afternoon cocktail and a special “chef’s gift” of Amuse Bouche or “tiny bite to amuse your mouth and get your palate going”.  We were presented with a bite-size mushroom custard with avocado coulis that was just light and delicious.

paname 2Next up we chose our Appetizer from a list of 9 yummy options: I chose the Caesar Salad Maison with aged Parmesan Cheese and my guest went with Jonah Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce.  The salad was crisp and had the perfect dressing and amount of parmesan cheese.  I really enjoyed it (the dressing was to die for).  The crab cakes were simply wonderful; the two of us were literally cleaning the sauce on the plate with a piece of bread.  Other appetizer options include soup, escargot, pate and additional salads.  For the “Main Course” I chose Filet of Sole with Citrus Vervaine and Pistachio Nuts with Bergamot Oil, while my guest chose the Caesar Salad with Grilled Shrimp.  Truth be told, I had a really hard time choosing from the list which included hamburgers, omelette, pasta, tilapia, cod-fish, chicken, pork and steak.  The Filet of Sole couldn’t possibly have been better: perfect combo of citrus meets pan-seared fish with delicious mashed potatoes and veggies.  The salad was perfect; the shrimp terrific and both of us hardly spoke as we devoured our lunch.  I want to mention the portions on both the appetizers and the main course were great!

paname 1Finally was dessert (also included in the “Prix Fixe”) although who truly “had room”.  We somehow managed and ordered the Crepe Maison and Chocolate Lava Cake.  The crepes were heaven and beyond.  Amazing buttery taste they were a true treat for my sweet tooth.  The lava cake was cocoa meets cake and simply delicious.

We both had coffee and ended our meal with a sorbet that cleansed the palate after an impeccable meal.  Such a fantastic restaurant; great food, great staff and quite honestly we will be back with our families.  For more information please visit http://panamenyc.com/.
